Construction Process & Product Recommendations...

Exterior:
-
Dirt Work & Foundation: We love to start at ground zero - we have all the equipment needed to get your site cleared and foundation done. We usually go with a 4 inch slab.
-
Basement: If you're going with a basement, I recommend ICF blocks and use the Buildblock brand. These concrete blocks are insulated with 2 1/2 inches of Styrofoam on each side. The insulation value is around R50. They also come with studs for easy drywall fastening. NOTE: ICF blocks are also a great material for storm shelters.
-
Frame: Our walls are framed with 2x6 frames, 16 inches on center, to get you the best insulation value possible. We use engineered floor trusses over a basement or sometimes I-joists with a crawl space.
-
Roof: We use engineered roof trusses, 2 feet on center, braced according to specs, with hurricane ties. Here are our go-to brands for shingles and metal roofing. They have a great look with concealed fasteners, and a bonus is that you could save quite a bit per year on insurance premiums with a good quality metal roof. Class 4 shingles may also save you a bit.
-
Siding: I recommend a brand of pre-painted OSB smart siding called Diamond Kote.
-
Windows: Marvin Windows are definitely our go-to reccomendation!
-
Gutters: We use a local company that does seamless guttering.

Interior:
-
Insulation: We really believe that open-cell spray foam insulation is the way to go, although it may be a bit more expensive than traditional bat insulation up-front. With a 2x6 inch wall you get about 5 inches of insulation, and when you spray right below the roof deck you get about 6 inches. This creates a full envelope around your house, and your attic should stay within 20 degrees of the interior room temperature - winter or summer!
-
Heating & AC: Go with a high efficiency system, whether you want gas or electric. We work with a great subcontractor who has state of the art equipment.
-
Paint: You pick the colors - I pick the brand - Sherwin Williams!
-
Floor Coverings: Common choices include tile, hardwood, laminate, luxury vinyl, and carpet.
-
Cabinets: We work with a local company that builds custom cabinets with countertops.
-
Showers: Onyx offers a great, easy to clean product, especially if you're wanting a walk-in shower. Bonus is they're built right here in Kansas!
-
Light Fixtures, etc: Totally up to you to choose! The options are endless!
